Ocalan's vision offers inspiration for anti-capitalist movements says Prof Wallis 2025-09-09 13:47:09 ANKARA - "Öcalan’s vision of a democratic and peaceful socialism — which calls for 'ecologizing' our thoughts and way of life — offers a source of inspiration for anti-capitalist movements around the world.," US professor Victor Wallis said in support of Abdullah Öcalan's call.  Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's 27 February "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" continues to receive international support. Another support came from US political scientist, writer, academician and activist Victor Wallis.    Professor Wallis, one of the pioneers of ecological socialism, announced his support for the historic call in a message to the Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party.    In his message, Wallis said: "I support Abdullah Öcalan’s call and the evolving peace process in Turkey. The Kurdish question remains the greatest obstacle to Turkey’s democratization.  This issue not only harms those directly affected, but also has far-reaching negative consequences for society as a whole. A democratic and peaceful resolution of the Kurdish question would bring tangible benefits to everyone living in Turkey.   Moreover, Abdullah Öcalan’s vision of a democratic and peaceful socialism — which calls for 'ecologizing' our thoughts and way of life — offers a source of inspiration for anti-capitalist movements around the world.   I extend my solidarity and greetings to all those who are committed to the struggle for peace and a democratic society."   WHO IS WALLIS?   Born in 1938, Victor Wallis is a professor in the Department of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Berklee College of Music. Known for his work Red-Green Revolution, which aims to establish an intellectual and practical unity between ecology and socialism, Wallis was the editor-in-chief of the journal Socialism and Democracy from 1997 to 2017.
