Amed prepares for ‘Freedom for Peace’ rally 2025-02-04 11:23:21 AMED - DBP and DEM Party provincial co-chairs called for participation to the rally to be held on 8 February in Istasyon Square with the slogan "Freedom for Peace".  Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) will organise a rally with the slogan “Freedom for Peace” on 8 February at İstasyon Square in Yenişehir district of Amed.   DBP and DEM Party Amed Provincial Co-Chairs called for participation to the rally.     DBP Provincial co-chair Sultan Yaray stated that the Kurdish people have been giving a message of peace for years and said, "This system, which has not recognised anyone's rights for years, needs to change. We will be in İstasyon Square for a democratic system. That is why this rally is important. There have been several meetings with Mr Abdullah Öcalan, but this process has not been named. We say that we will come together on the day of the rally and shout that the name of this process must be the peace process. We will demand that the peoples in the Middle East live together and free."   Sultan Yaray added, "Women should lead the rally. This rally is a historical opportunity for women. Women should come to the field with their zılgıt (Kurdish traditional sound), halay, kiras-fistan (Kurdish traditional clothes) and give a message of peace to the world."    DBP Provincial Co-Chair Mehmet Şirin Gürbüz stated that the Kurdish people have been struggling for an honourable life and an honourable peace for 100 years and said, "The Kurdish people have been under pressure for 100 years. Against these oppressions, our people should raise the voice of freedom in İstasyon Square on 8 February. On the one hand, negotiations are being held and on the other hand, trustees are appointed and inhumane attacks continue. This duality must be ended. The isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan continues. The negotiations must now result in unity. The demands of the people must be fulfilled."   Abbas Şahin, DEM Party Provincial Co-Chair Abbas Şahin stated that the ongoing wars in the Middle East did not benefit the peoples and said: "We are experiencing a process in which there is a test of mutual sincerity. Everyone should realise that without the Kurdish voice in Kurdistan, no policy in the Middle East can be implemented. For this reason, we are organising a rally on 8 February. Participation in the regional rally is very important."   Drawing attention to the ongoing meetings on İmralı Island Abbas Şahin said, "The support of the people is necessary for this process to be named and for the outcome to be revealed. The biggest demand of the people at the moment is honourable peace. Honourable peace is also possible with the interlocutors. In order to support this peace, we need to take to the fields with our people and voice honourable peace in the fields."    Pointing out that this rally is important for women, youth and peoples, Abbas Şahin added, "It is necessary to realise that war policies no longer contribute to society. Therefore, let's meet together with our women, youth and peoples at the ‘freedom for peace’ rally in Amed Istasyon Square. For freedom to be established, conditions must be created and for the conditions to be created, we need to be in this area with our people and raise our voices."
