QERS – Citizens gathered in Qers (Kars, Turkey) to celebrate Newroz amidst snowfall.

Newroz was celebrated at Station Square in Qers. Early in the morning, citizens – predominantly young people and women – arrived at the square dressed in traditional attire and adorned with yellow, red and green accessories, and danced the halay to the sound of slogans.

The celebrations began with a moment of silence.

Speaking at the event, Heval Bozdağ, MP for Agîri (Ağrı, Turkey) from the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party, paid tribute to Salih Muslim, a member of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) Co-Presidency Council who had lost his life, and stated that they would continue his struggle.

Bozdağ emphasised that the Kurdish people have always resisted from the past to the present and will continue to do so, noting that this resistance serves as an inspiration to the peoples of the world.

Following the speeches, the Newroz celebrations continued with Cevdet Bağca taking to the stage. The celebrations concluded with a musical performance and halay dances.
