MSD calls for intra-Syrian political consensus as only path to resolve crisis

NEWS CENTER – The Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) has called for a political solution among Syrians as the sole way to end the country’s crisis and build a pluralistic, decentralized democratic state that safeguards the rights of all components while preserving national unity. The council also urged the creation of a unified and professional national military institution through consensus-based integration.

In a statement issued after its recent meeting, the MSD emphasized that rapid developments in Syria necessitate a shift from merely managing the crisis toward actively constructing a state grounded in citizenship, rule of law, and a fair partnership capable of ensuring lasting peace. According to the council, such a transformation requires broad national agreement and meaningful participation in shaping the country’s future.

IMPORTANCE OF BALANCED RELATIONS

Rejecting foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs and reliance on regional or international actors at the expense of national sovereignty, the MSD stressed the importance of establishing balanced relations with neighboring countries based on mutual respect and shared interests. The council reaffirmed its support for the January 29 agreement, describing it as a step toward reducing tensions and paving the way for a comprehensive political process.

EMPHASIS ON A NATIONAL CONTRACT

The statement outlined several key priorities, including adapting the council’s organizational and political structure to the new phase and contributing to the formation of a national charter founded on Syria’s territorial integrity, unity of its people, equal citizenship, and democratic decentralization.

The MSD also called for drafting a constitution that recognizes the legitimate national rights of the Kurdish people while protecting the cultural, linguistic, and national rights of other communities such as Syriacs, Assyrians, Turkmens, Armenians, and Circassians.

INCLUSIVE POLITICAL PARTICIPATION

Highlighting the need for inclusive governance, the council stressed that women must have full and equal participation in political life and decision-making mechanisms. It also underlined the importance of empowering youth and ensuring their active involvement in every stage of the political and social process.

Additionally, the MSD advocated adopting transitional justice measures to address past grievances, uncover the truth, and facilitate the safe and dignified return of displaced persons.

Concluding its statement, the council said it is working with a constructive approach to shape Syria’s future and is dedicating its efforts to a comprehensive national project aimed at realizing the hopes and expectations of the population through the establishment of a new, democratic Syrian state.
