DİYARBAKIR - Hayriye Demir, a 70-year-old woman was detained in a military raid on her home in Diyarbakır.

 

Within the scope of the operation targeting woman activists in Diyarbakır, two separate houses were raided in Fis Neighborhood in the rural area of Lice district in Diyarbakır. Soldiers who blockaded the neighborhood with armored vehicles searched two houses in the raid. One of the houses raided by the military belongs to the 70-year-old woman Hayriye Demir. As Demir was detained, the soldiers confiscated the photographs of his child who is known to be a member of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). 

 

Demir is expected to be brought to the Diyarbakır Police Headquarters.

 

LOST TWO SONS IN THE WAR, ONE SON STILL IMPRISONED

 

Cengiz Demir, son of Hayriye Demir who joined the PKK in 1999, lost his life in a conflict in 1999. Cengiz Demir's deceased body which was first buried in the Garzan Cemetery Garzan Cemetery in the Tatvan district of the southeastern province of Bitlis, was taken to Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) with the claim that DNA matches will be held on December 19, 2017, together with the bodies of 267 people. Then the funeral was found buried in the sidewalk of Kilyos Cemetery in Sarıyer, which created a public debate in Turkey as the deceased bodies were found in plastic boxes under sidewalks, put on top of each other in boxes numbered from 1 to 18. Cengiz Demir's body has been then brought to Diyarbakır and buried in Fis Neighborhood where the family lives.

 

Other son of Hayriye Demir joined PKK in 1992 and lost his life in a conflict in 1993, but the whereabouts of his deceased body remains unknown. Hayriye Demir's third son Abdullah Demir was sentenced to life imprisonment and has been in prison for 25 years.
