MARDIN - İHD Mardin Branch Co-chair Feyzi Adsız, who stated that they were concerned that the investigation was not being conducted effectively in the murder of Adem Kara, requested that the police's power to use weapons be limited.

Adem Kara (21), who was shot in the back of the neck by the police on September 1, allegedly not obeying the "stop" warning at the animal market established in Mardin, lost his life. The governor's office and district governor's office did not make a statement regarding the murder of Kara, even though 3 days have passed. It is not known whether any action was taken against the police officer who killed Kara.

Kara's murder reminded us of similar incidents in previous years that resulted in impunity. Since 2002, more than 500 people across the country have been killed by police bullets. Many of the perpetrators were either acquitted under the Police Duties and Powers Act (PVSK) or continued their careers with reduced sentences. 16-year-old Mazlum Turan, Çetin Kaya, Dilek Doğan, Ali El Hemdan, Şahin Öner, Kemal Kurkut, Recep Hantaş and 12-year-old Nihat Kazanhan are just a few of the people killed by police bullets.

'THE MURDER WILL BE COVERED UP'

Speaking about Kara's murder, Human Rights Association (İHD) Mardin Branch Co-chair Feyzi Adsız said: "Kara was killed on September 1, World Peace Day. The incident was 'unacceptable'. The authorities did not make any statement. The murder will be covered up. The investigation would not be carried out in a proper way. The governorship and related institutions are responsible for accurately informing the public of such events. We were waiting for an explanation from the authorities regarding the murder of Kara."

'POLICE POWER TO USE WEAPONS SHOULD BE LIMITED'

Stating that the perpetrators should be brought before a judge as soon as possible and necessary punishments should be made, Adsız said: "The Parliamentary Human Rights Commission should convene as soon as possible to prevent such deaths and make the necessary legal arrangements. The power to use weapons granted to the police in PVSK should be limited. The law in question paved the way for similar incidents and caused practices that violated the right to life, which is included in the international conventions to which Turkey is a party.
