ANKARA - Condemning that the ill prisoner Aysel Tuğluk aren't released, HDP Spokesperson Ebru Günay said: "Just as Kurds were massacred by unsolved murders in the 90s, AKP now carries out a similar policy over ill prisoners in prisons."

Aysel Tuğluk, former Co-Chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), who has dementia and is imprisoned in Kocaeli No. 1 Type F High Security Prison, spoke about the Kovid-19 she was caught in prison. Tuğluk, who was sent to the hospital due to his health problems yesterday, was taken back to prison after being given serum. Tuğluk, who was diagnosed with dementia in 2021 by Kocaeli Seka Hospital, said that she could be "held in prison" in all 3 applications to ATK. The application made to the Constitutional Court for Tuğluk was also given a negative response.

HDP Spokesperson Ebru Günay and Group Deputy Chairperson Meral Danış Beştaş evaluated Tuğluk's hospitalization yesterday and the fact that she was not released despite the progression of her dementia.

'DISCRIMINATION POLICY IS APPLIED TO AYSEL TUĞLUK'

Stating that Tuğluk was subjected to a discriminatory policy, HDP Spokesperson Ebru Günay said: "The AKP and the Ministry of Justice continue their discrimination policy against ill prisoners. the discrimination policy is applied to Aysel Tuğluk. Çevik Bir, who had the same disease as Tuğluk and received a life sentence in the February 28 trial, was released; however, the right to life in Aysel Tuğluk prison is violated. In the last 4-5 months, ill prisoners have been losing their lives in prisons due to open negligence and discrimination policies. Just as Kurds were massacred in unsolved murders in the 90s, the AKP now carries out a similar policy over ill prisoners in prisons. Ill prisoners either do not have access to treatment or die shortly after release. The state is responsible for the lives of prisoners in prisons. However, rather than protecting the right to life, there is the reality of a government and the Ministry of Justice that threatens the right to life and carries out a discriminatory and hostile policy. The Minister of Justice resigns even after a death in prisons in democratic countries, the Turkish Minister of Justice didn't  resign, the Minister even didn't open an investigation. The deaths remained questionable. There are gross negligence and suspicions leading to murder in the deaths in prisons."

'ILL PRISONERS SHOULD BE RELEASED'

Underlining that ill prisoners, especially Aysel Tuğluk, should be released, Günay added: “Conditions must be created to ensure their right to access health outside. It is known that ATK is a very controversial institution and its racist attitudes on this issue are reflected to the public. We all know that ATK reports are actually reports that lack medical and human rights values. Aysel is Kurdish, female, HDP supporter, dissident, but also Alevi. When we combine the whole identity, we see that the most severe form of discrimination is applied.”
