ANKARA - It has been stated that in Ereğli Prison, where the hunger strike continues, the health checks of the prisoners were not carried out and they were taken to the ventilation for an hour and a half.

The 10-day indefinite non-rotating hunger strike, which was launched on October 4 against severe isolation and violations of rights in Konya Ereğli High Security Prison, was turned into an indefinite non-alternating action on November 16. Serious human rights violations continue in the prison, where the demands of the prisoners are not accepted. Lawyers who are members of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD), Human Rights Association (İHD) and Association for Assistance with Prisoners' Families (TUAY-DER) met with prisoners on December 26. Human rights and legal organizations will report their meetings with the prisoners and the prison administration and make them public in the coming days.

HUNGER STRIKE CONTINUES

Conveying their impressions of the meeting and the statements of the prisoners, Lawyers said: "6 people stayed in a single cell in the same corridor in the C block of the prison, the cells were raided and the belongings were distributed two weeks ago. It was recorded that the cell of Hasan Muhammed İbiş, who was kept in a single cell in the same corridor, was constantly raided under the name of search, and his pillows and books were taken. In addition, it was reported that the prisoners on hunger strike were not checked by a doctor, vitamin B12 was not given to the prisoners, and the prisoners were taken to the air for 1 and a half hours a day."

DISABLED PRISONER IS HELD IN CELL

It was stated that a disabled prisoner held in a solitary cell was not taken to the normal ward despite requests, and a new report was imposed despite the presence of a report. It has been learned that there is no ventilation in this ward. It was stated that the prisoners, whose demands were not met, were subjected to threats because of the hunger strike. It was noted that the prisoners could not communicate with each other due to the communication penalty given for the hunger strike action in the prison. It was reported that the prisoners, who reported their daily demands through the intercom system, were subjected to psychological violence. It was reported that there is only one window in the wards, the window is completely closed with iron bars, and the prisoners could not even see the sky because of the walls and wires.

STRIP SEARCH WAS IMPOSED

It was learned that no books, magazines and newspapers are given to the prisoners on hunger strike in the prison, which does not have a library. It was stated that a strip search was imposed in the prison, where arbitrary disciplinary punishments were given.
