ISTANBUL- Condemning the fact that Şebnem Korur Fincancı was not released called for a joint struggle, Intellectuals and writers said: "If telling the truth is a crime in this country, we are guilty too."

The second hearing of the case against Turkish Medical Association (TTB) Central Council President Prof. Dr. Şebnem Korur Fincancı, who was arrested for her scientific evaluation of the footages of chemical weapons attacks against the Zap, Avaşîn and Metina regions of Turkey, is held on December 29 at the Istanbul 24th High Criminal Court . The court board decided to continue Fincancı's detention and adjourned the hearing to January 11 At the hearing.

Condemnating the situation, intellectuals, writers and lawyers stated that the decision is political and demanded that Fincancı should be released immediately.

THE DECISION OF COURT IS POLITICAL

Stating that the Fincancı trial is a political trial, one of the lawyers of the case, Meriç Eyüboğlu, said: "The decision in the hearing had been made long ago. They are not convinced of the impartiality and independence of the court. We demanded the rejection of the court committee. But this request was denied. The reason for the refusal was our claim to prolong the case. There can be no more strange justification than saying 'the request to prolong the case'. We will object, but obviously this committee will decide. This process, which is dubious from the beginning, will be completed in due course, but it will undoubtedly be written in history.”

'USE OF CHEMICALS IS A CRIME'

Stating that Fincancı is a scientist, the writer Temel Demirer reminded Theodor W. Adorno's words: "If science is to repeat what the rulers say, it is not science, it is just talkativeness and buffoonery." and said: "I want to express myself very clearly. Using chemicals is a crime. Whoever used chemicals is guilty and is committing a war crime."

FİNCANCI IS OUR HONOR, SHE CANNOT BE JUDGED'

Reminding the Geneva convention, Dermirer said: "All states have signed under this agreement. Fincancı expressed a truth. If speaking the truth is a crime in this country, it means that both Şebnem and I have committed this crime. No one can judge Şebnem. because there is no punishment to be given to Şebnem. There is a medal of honor to be given to her. Şebnem is our honor. The punishment given to Şebnem is to put the medal of honor on Şebnem's chest. Can they silence Şebnem this way? No. She says he would say it as a scientist even if they put Şebnem under seven floors. This is exactly why Şebnem is our honor and cannot be judged.”

'TTB WILL NOT BE SILENT'

Defining the process carried out as an “operation”, Osman Küçükosmanoğlu, Congress Delegate of the Istanbul Medical Chamber said: "The main target is towards the TTB through Fincancı. The aim is to silence and neutralise our organization because the struggle for health and personal rights carried out by the TBB disturbs the political power. For this reason, an investigation is opened against the TTB center directors for membership in the organization. TTB will not remain silent despite all the pressures. We will continue to defend the right to democracy, human rights, peace and health.”
