ISTANBUL - Evaluating the painful picture that emerged in the Maraş-centered earthquake as a "massacre", Academic Savaş Karabulut said: "The death toll is much higher the ones announced and that the real responsible for what happened was the government."

While the number of casualties and injuries increased in 10 cities in the earthquakes of 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude that occurred in Maraş, experts point out that the number of deaths will increase due to the lack of adequate precautions. Gebze Technical University Civil Engineering Department Faculty Member and Earthquake Specialist Savaş Karabulut emphasized that the government is responsible for the picture that emerged after the earthquake.

EARTHQUAKE WARNING HAS BEEN MADE

Emphasizing that the warnings of the last earthquake had been made before, Karabulut said: "The government was aware of all these events before. As earthquake experts, we can tell where earthquakes will break even though we know when they will happen. It is stated that these areas are earthquake zones, we are in the middle of the earthquake, even after the January 24, 2020 Malatya earthquake, the determination of risky structures, making public buildings reliable if not reliable, preparing assembly and shelter areas, taking precautions against fire, controlling all airports and railways one by one. It was said by experts that it should be done and the government was aware of this.”

'THIS IS A MASSACRE'

Karabulut, who interpreted the earthquakes that occurred in other cities, especially in Maraş and Gaziantep, as a massacre, expressed that the current government is responsible for this massacre. Karabulut concluded his words as follows: “After all the earthquakes, we see that only the contractors were punished, but the central government, which is the main responsibility here, and then the local governments are the ones that are responsible because in the first place, they are responsible for allowing the contractors who built illegal structures to do this, and for connecting everything to fate and nature after every disaster. At least one of the situations to be revealed in these earthquake areas was the inspection of the buildings and the taking of precautions. All buildings in Turkey should be inspected one by one, risky structures should be determined and demolition or reinforcement should be carried out as a result of these determinations. People are being crushed under the concrete piles of the buildings. That's why all the deaths in these earthquakes are massacres and the government is responsible for it."
