ŞIRNAK - Prisoner Nurettin Başaran, who is 78 percent disabled, is not released even though he is wheelchair dependent and struggling to survive under the supervision of a caregiver.

 

Nurettin Başaran, a ill prisoner who was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being detained after the curfew announced in 2015 in the Cizîr (Cizre) district of Şirnex, despite his 78 percent disability and the Forensic Medicine Institute's (ATK) report "He cannot be held alone" He is not released by being held in Elaziğ Type R Prison. The situation of Başaran, who refused to be operated in prison, is getting worse day by day. Even the basic needs of Başaran, who is unable to walk and isn't in a solitary cell tied to a wheelchair, are met by a caregiver held in prison.

 

Başaran's wife, Kaniye Başaran, said that her husband should be released for good treatment. Stating that his husband needs an automatic wheelchair that he can use, Başaran stated that they could not buy it because they did not have financial conditions.

 

BAŞARAN CANNOT MEET YOUR BASIC NEEDS

 

Stating that he could not even meet his basic needs, Başaran said: "My husband should be evacuated and treated. My husband's needs are met with the support of a caregiver. A caregiver takes him away. Is there anything more difficult than this? It is very difficult for us to go to the meeting. The road is very long and we don't have any cars. Although we go by bus, we make 3-4 transfers. He can't stand on his feet at all. We want him to be freed and treated outside."

 

THERE IS A RISK OF LOSING A LEG

 

Stating that his wife will lose one of her legs if she does not have an operation, Başaran said: “Currently, drug treatment is applied, but it does not have any effect in hospital conditions. It's getting worse day by day. Everything is very difficult for a person who cannot meet his needs within four walls. We demand the release of all ill prisoners because taking a patient to the emergency room and treating him in a full-fledged hospital does not give the same result. We want him to be treated in a good hospital.”
