Women's call for 'united struggle' against attacks

ISTANBUL - Calling for a "united struggle" against Turkey's attacks on Northern and Eastern Syria, the women said: "We must demonstrate a strong practice of struggle against the dominant mentality that is hostile to women and Kurds."

Turkey's attacks on Northern and Eastern Syria, the place where ISIS, which threatens the world, was defeated, continue to increase. The AKP government, which has targeted Northern and Eastern Syria since 2015, when the concept of war was returned, has killed 9 women with Armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drone) in the last 4 years. In the latest SİHA(drone) attack on Qamishlo on June 20, Qamishlo Canton Co-chair Yusra Derwêş, her deputy Leyman Şiwêş (Rîhan Amude) and the driver of the vehicle, Firat Tûma, were killed.

Condemning Turkey's attacks, political party representatives called for a "united struggle" against the attacks that they considered "Kurdish and misogynist".

THE TARGET OF THE ATTACK IS WOMEN

Greens and Left Future Party (Green Left Party) Mersin MP and Member of the Social Freedom Party (TOP) Spokespersons Board Perihan Koca described the attack against women in Rojava as hostility to democracy. Expressing that the Kurdish freedom movement and women fighting for freedom have been targeted with attacks on the region for many years, Koca said: "Turkey continues to attack policies against Kurds. The government is somehow trying to create its own Kurdish, its own female identity, its own human typology. They are in an action plan where they try to build their own Kurdish organization through the Free Cause Party; therefore, it is necessary to read their attacks against Rojava as one of the moves towards the construction of holistic fascism.”

CALL FOR UNITED STRUGGLE

Stating that the attacks against the Kurds were not a coincidence, Koca said: “The democratic structure in Rojava is a wave breaker for fascism, an obstacle to gaining the status quo. The government sees these attacks as an obstacle to the fascism it wants to create. The importance of the revolutionary united struggle against these attacks turned out to be a vital need, especially for women. In order to respond to these attacks, all left socialist, revolutionary and patriotic forces must come together and say in a louder voice. We do not want to live through these massacres again."

THE AGREEMENT IN ASTANA

Drawing attention that Turkey is a part of the Syrian civil war that has been going on for years, Revolutionary Party Deputy Chairperson Gamze Taşçı said: "The scale of the attack has developed very comprehensively at the current stage. The following about the targets of the attack: “In the last meeting held in Astana, Turkey demanded the elimination of the Kurdish people's struggle for existence and the destruction of the established status. As the attack in Qamishlo coincided with the Astana talks, we observe that a consensus was formed especially for Rojava during the talks. A joint statement was made that included statements that Syria's border integrity and at the same time no autonomy would be recognized. This is an indication of a stage where Turkey has come towards the gains created in Rojava.”

'WE ARE WITH THE KURDISH PEOPLE'

Stating that what is happening in Syria is a war of sharing by the sovereigns, Taşçı said: "A common attitude was taken against the gains of the Kurdish people and other peoples in this post. The attacks are a mortgage placed before the capitalist world's hostility to Kurds and the right of peoples to self-determination. By taking sides with the just struggle of the Kurdish people, we can regress these attacks on Turkey. This is our fundamental responsibility for the revolutionaries of Türkiye, women and all forces of democracy because the withdrawal of the people of Rojava to the borders of exploitation means an increase in poverty and a further increase in violence against women. We will continue to fight against fascism by standing shoulder to shoulder with the just and legitimate demands of the Kurdish people.”
