NEWS CENTER - In the statements made in Amed, Êlih and Şirnex demanding "Education in mother tongue from kindergarten to university", a call was made to raise voice against the system that denies and ignores Kurds and their mother tongue.

 

As the new academic year starts today, a joint statement was made with the demand for education in mother tongue in Amed(Diyarbakır), Êlih(Batman) and Sirnex(Şırnak).

 

'KURDISH SHOULD BE THE LANGUAGE OF EDUCATION'

 

Speaking on behalf of Diyarbakır City Protection and Solidarity Platform, Abdusamed Ucaman said: “We call on all parties to support the people and give importance to Kurdish culture and language. We tell our people to never forget their language and culture." DBP Amed Provincial Co-Chair Hayrettin Altun said, “There should be as many Kurdish teacher appointments as there are living Kurds. Let the Kurdish language be the language of education and the official language. Assimilation continues as long as it is not officially processed in the market or in school. The Kurdish language should not be called 'X'. "We Kurds have not accepted this oppression for years, and we will continue to fight against this disregard."

 

MED-DER Director Dilan Güvenç, who read the press release after the speeches, said: “The beginning of the education period is also valid for Kurdish children. According to Article 42 of the Basic Law of Turkey, education in any mother tongue other than Turkish cannot be given in public schools. This also means that Turkish education will be imposed on millions of Kurdish children, as was the case in the last hundred years of the Republic of Turkey, and Kurdish children will once again be deprived of the right to education in their native language. Millions of Kurdish children will be crushed and cut off from their language, truth, identity and culture."

 

Stating that the Kurdish people have been faced with denial and ignoring since the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, Güvenç said: “Kurds are trying to protect their culture, language and other national values, and this struggle still continues. Freedom of Kurdish culture and language is the main reason for the struggle of the Kurdish people. The demand of the Kurdish people, 'Let the Kurdish language be the official language and the language of education from pre-school to university' is the most legitimate and humane demand."
