ŞIRNEX - Speaking at the commemoration of 7 women murdered in Silopia and Paris, DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan said that it is not a coincidence that women are targeted. Deputy Burcugül Çubuk stated that the Kurdish women's struggle shakes the foundations of the state.

Sêvê Demir, Fatma Uyar, Pakize Nayır, who were murdered during the curfew declared between 2015-2016 in the Silopiya (Silopi) district of Şirnex, and Sakine Cansız (Sara), Fidan Doğan (Rojbîn), and Leyla Şaylemez (Ronahî), who were murdered in Paris on January 9, 2013 and Emine Kara (Evin Goyi), who were murdered in Paris on 2022, were commemorated at the DEM Party Silopiya District Organization building under the leadership of Free Women Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA).

The families of the three women, People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan, Members of Parliament Saliha Aydeniz, Burcugül Çubuk, Newroz Uysal Aslan, M. Zeki İrmez, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Women's Council, Mothers for Peace and many people attended. Speaking at the commemoration, Pakize Nayır's mother, Behiye Nayır, said that they would continue their daughter's struggle until the end.

'WOMEN'S STRUGGLE SHAKES THE FOUNDATION OF THE STATE'

Speaking afterwards, DEM Party İzmir Deputy Burcugül Çubuk stated that the colonial powers were afraid of women's struggle and said: "The basis of such assassination and massacre attempts, especially against women, is that women shake the foundations of the state in their fight against this system. The Republic of Turkey was founded on masculine militarism and war, on colonialism and capitalism. That's why the women's liberation struggle and this struggle that brings us side by side are shaking the foundations of the state. We promise that we will always stand side by side and we will fight shoulder to shoulder against colonialism."

'THE MURDERERS OF JİNA AND SÊVÊS ARE THE SAME'

DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan stated that pioneer women were chosen as targets and said: “This struggle continues with heavy costs. The centuries-old history of Kurdistan is a painful history. We have paid and continue to pay a high price in the struggle for freedom. We do not accept what is imposed on us. Kurd women who will play a leading role in Paris, Botan, Rojava, Bakur, Başur and Rojava are being targeted. These women are deliberately targeted. The system and mentality of the murderers of the Kurdish woman Jina Êmînî, who was murdered in Rojhilat, is the same system and mentality as the murderers of Pakize, Sêve and Fatma."

Stating that the legitimate struggle of the Kurds will yield results, Doğan said: "We are fighting for our own language, identity and existence. These friends of ours also gave their lives for this cause. But no one has the right to stop our legitimate struggle. When it comes to the language, identity and existence of a people, this is a universal demand. That's why the murder of Kurdish women is not a coincidence. We will resist until the end and continue the legacy of struggle."

'WE ARE SAKINE'S CORRANDS'

DEM Party Mêrdîn Deputy Saliha Aydeniz noted that the Kurdish women's struggle was deliberately targeted and said: "It is our struggle that keeps us alive. 8 years have passed since the murder of our three comrades. We all know and are witnesses of how they committed massacres in Silopya, Gever and Nisebîn. However, we women did not step back and we are on the streets. They wanted to silence us, women, by murdering Sêvê and her comrades. But we did not remain silent, we continue the struggle they started from where they left off. We are the comrades of Sêvê and Sakine and we will continue to continue the legacy of struggle they left us."

'FIGHTING THE KURDS DOES NOT PROFIT'

In her speech, Aydeniz also touched upon the hunger strike actions launched in prisons and said: “The Kurdish issue can be solved with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. Fighting the Kurdish people will not make you gain, it will make you lose. The war with the Kurds does not brighten the future, it makes it increasingly dark. That's why the Kurdish issue needs to be solved. The address for the solution of the Kurdish issue is clear, the address is İmralı. Hunger strikes were launched in prisons to solve the Kurdish issue. Therefore, we must be their voice and raise their demands. These hunger strikes need to be voiced on every street so that this action will yield results."

After the speeches, the commemoration ended with the slogan "Honor your martyr".

Later, the graves of the murdered women were visited. Speaking at Sêvê Demir's grave, her father Aziz Demir said: “I bow with respect to the memory of Sêvê, Pakize, Fatma, Asya Yüksel and Mehmet Tunç. We will continue their struggle. But above all, we need to be united. If we are united, then we can keep their struggle alive. Your honor as a martyr."

MÊRDÎN

TJA held a commemoration for the 6 murdered women at the DEM Party Mêrdîn Provincial Organization building. Mothers for Peace, Solidarity with Families Who Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations and Culture Association (MEBYA-DER) and DEM Party Mêrdîn Deputy Beritan Güneş and many women attended the commemoration.

The commemoration started with a movie screening about the struggle of women. Speaking at the commemoration, MEBYA-DER Mêrdîn Branch Co-Chair Gurbet Tekin stated that the struggle of the murdered women was for peace, freedom and unity. Noting that the murdered women were travelers of truth, Tekin said: “I had the opportunity to make friends with Heval Sêvê and Fatma. Sêvê had to emigrate due to the oppression of the state. She was arrested and took part in hunger strike actions in prison in 2012. After she was released from prison, she continued her work from where she left off. Every step they took was for the liberation of women, the liberation of society.”
Speaking afterwards, DEM Party Mêrdîn Deputy Beritan Güneş pointed out that the Paris massacre was not an ordinary massacre and said: “Those who wanted to leave this issue unresolved for 100 years did the same thing. And they wanted to stop the peace talks. Just as there was an international conspiracy against Mr. Öcalan on October 9, an international conspiracy was organized against Kurdish women and Kurdish politicians with an international massacre on January 9."

The commemoration ended after the speeches.
