The hunger strike launched in prisons in Turkey and Kurdistan to demand the physical freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan has reached its 46th day. Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held in İmralı Type F High Security Closed Prison for 25 years, and other prisoners in the prison, Ömer Hayri Konar, Veysi Aktaş and Hamili Yıldırım, have not been allowed to meet with their families and lawyers for 34 months.

 

To end the absolute isolation in Imrali and ensure the physical freedom of Öcalan, the "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, solution to the Kurdish issue" campaign was launched internationally with simultaneous statements made in 74 centers around the world on October 10, 2023.

 

Prisoners started a hunger strike on November 27 as part of the "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, solution to the Kurdish issue" campaign. The action will continue until February 15, 2024.
