ANKARA - Saadet Akın, one of the prisoners on hunger strike, said: “Let's unite around Abdullah Öcalan. Let's put abolishing the isolation and physical freedom of Öcalan at the center of our lives."

Political prisoners in many prisons in Kurdistan and Turkey started a rotating hunger strike on November 27, 2023 to ensure the physical freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and to solve the Kurdish issue. The action continues its 59th day with new groups taking over. Saadet Akın, who was among the political prisoners who went on hunger strike in Sincan Women's Closed Prison on November 27, spoke about her action.

'IT IS TRADLED UNDER FEET'

Stating that throughout history, governments have imposed the culture of "allegiance" to hold themselves afloat and that this culture is based on force, lies and plunder, Akın noted that "legal" mechanisms have been put into effect to legitimize this culture in every period. Emphasizing that this was used as a cover, Akın said: “How much truth and right can there be in a system where property and ownership are based on justice? Today, Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, who is in search of truth and rights, is struggling for will and honor in prison. The most fundamental rights, the 'right to life' and the 'right to hope', have been trampled on in these places by arbitrary and hostile law.”

'FREE ABDULLAH ÖCALAN IS FREE KURDISHNESS'

Stating that the freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan will directly provide a solution to the Kurdish issue, Akın said: “Just as flesh and nail are inseparable, the liberation of the Kurds and the freedom of Mr. Öcalan are inseparable. Öcalan is the embodiment of the awakened Kurdish realism truth. Therefore, free Öcalan is free Kurdishness, free society. Of course, we cannot limit this truth only to the Kurds. If millions of people from different parts of the world are participating in the campaign launched on a global scale today, this shows that Abdullah Öcalan is welcomed by the people as the leader of freedom and democracy. Therefore, we can define it as a great awakening and salvation of humanity.”

'IT IS NEEDED AS MUCH AS BREAD AND WATER'

Emphasizing that hunger strike actions must be embraced, Akın said: “Our demand from the people in the struggle for democracy, freedom and humanity is this; Let's unite around Mr. Abdullah Öcalan. Let's put abolishing the isolation and Abdullah Öcalan's physical freedom at the center of our lives. Because, as a people and as humanity, we need the light and enlightenment of Abdullah Öcalan as much as bread and water. Abdullah Öcalan is the name of being human, remaining human, being free and building a common life between people and nature. For this reason, we must strive to meet Abdullah Öcalan with all our strength in every field. I salute everyone who has made effort for this cause. We will definitely win."
