WAN- Feyyaz Başak, who is held in Elazığ High Security Prison No. 2, stated that the prisoners on hunger strike were put in cells and called for public awareness.

 

The hunger strike that the prisoners started on November 27, demanding the physical freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the solution of the Kurdish issue, is on its 109th day. Prisoners are subjected to serious rights violations due to ongoing hunger strikes in prisons. Prisoners who go on hunger strikes are given many punishments, such as communication and solitary confinement, and their communication with the outside world is completely restricted. 

 

Feyyaz Başak, one of the prisoners in Elazığ High Security Prison No. 2, talked about the problems he experienced during the meeting with his family. Stating that lawyers should visit prisons and the public should be sensitive to what is happening, Başak stated that prisoners who went on hunger strikes were thrown into cells.

 

PRISONERS THROWED INTO THE CELL NOT EVEN GIVEN BOOKS

 

Başak, who told her family that there was psychological pressure and serious rights violations in Elazığ High Security Prison No. 2, said: “Prisoners who go on hunger strike are given solitary confinement under the name of communication punishment. Prisoners thrown into the cell held there for a month. During their stay in the cell, they are deprived of their newspaper, TV and radio rights, and they are not even given books. Even the simplest things we requested were not given to us since we were thrown into the cells. Even the books that we most legally request are not given to us. None of our petitions to the prison administration are answered. The letters we write to human rights organizations are also confiscated. We want all human rights organizations, deputies, lawyers and non-governmental organizations to be sensitive on this issue. We demand that they come here and investigate."
