UN asks government defense for Roboskî

NEWS CENTER - The UN Human Rights Committee asked a defense from the government within the scope of the application made for the Roboskî Massacre case.

The United Nations (UN) Human Rights Committee asked Turkey's defense regarding the murder of 34 people, including 19 children, as a result of the bombardment of warplanes in the Qileban (Uludere) district of Şirnex (Şırnak-Kurdistan) on 28 December 2011.

'THE GOVERNMENT WILL DEFEND FOR THE FIRST TIME'

Lawyer Kerem Altıparmak announced the ask on his virtual media account. Altıparmak noted that the government will make a defense for the first time. Altıparmak's posts are as follows: "The United Nations (UN) Human Rights Committee notified the government of the application made by the Roboski families to receive their opinions on the admissibility and merits. The application claims that the right to life and the prohibition of ill-treatment have been violated. As you may remember, the ECHR had previously ruled on inadmissibility for procedural reasons, without taking defenses on the merits. For this reason, for the first time, the government will defend itself on the merits before an international mechanism and present its opinion on whether there has been a violation of the Convention."

6 MONTHS RESPONSE PERIOD

Stating that the government must respond within 6 months, Altıparmak said: "If no additional time is asked and/or this additional time is not given, the government has 6 months to submit its answers. Then, the applicants will respond to the government's opinions and state what they want in reparations in case of a violation. In the meantime, let us remind you that there is a Roboski application pending in the Constitutional Court. The Roboski case is a very important symbol in Turkey's search for justice and truth. It is a heavy duty for us to seek this truth in Turkey and/or international mechanisms."
