NEWS CENTER - Advisor to the Iraqi Minister of Migration and Immigration Karim Nuri announced that the number of people returning to Iraq from Hol Camp in North and East Syria is around 4 thousand.

Karim Nouri, Advisor to the Iraqi Minister of Migration and Immigration, spoke to Iraqi media about the efforts for the return of migrants and the number of people returning to Iraq from the Hol Camp in Hesekê Canton of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

Karim Nuri stated that there are more than 53 thousand people of all nationalities in Hol Camp and said: “20 thousand of them are Iraqis. Most of the world countries are reluctant to take their citizens from this camp. This camp has become a very dangerous place because of ISIS and therefore it should be closed as soon as possible.”

Karim Nouri stated that Iraq's measures to bring back Iraqi refugees in Hol Camp have been successful to some extent and said: “Many people whose hands are not stained with the blood of Iraqis have been brought back. Those who committed murders are also being tried. However, we do not approach them with revenge.”

Pointing out that women and children cannot be held responsible for the crimes committed by others, Karim Nouri said that Iraq was the first country to release its citizens from Camp Hol. Karim Nouri stated that there are 20 thousand Iraqis in Hol Camp and that they have brought nearly 4 thousand of them back to Iraq so far.

Speaking about the return of Iraqi migrants in the camps in the Federated Kurdistan Region, “There is a good agreement between the Regional Government and Iraq on the return of migrants. A good coordination has been established for the return of migrants in 22 camps in Duhok and Hewlêr” he said.
