Application for violations in Kırşehir Prison

ANKARA - DEM Party has applied to the Parliamentary Human Rights Commission for on-site observation of rights violations in Kırşehir High Security Closed Prison. 

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) MPs Nevroz Uysal Aslan, Beritan Güneş and Kamuran Tanhan brought the allegations of torture and ill-treatment against prisoners in Kırşehir High Security Closed Prison to the Parliamentary Human Rights Investigation Commission (IHİK).
 
VIOLATIONS SHARED BY PRISONERS
 
The application included information shared by prisoners about violations. The application drew attention to the information shared by the lawyers after their meeting with political prisoner Hacı Karakuzu and pointed out that prisoners were taken to ventilation for one hour a day. The application also included information that prisoners' shoes, belts and watches were taken from them while they were taken to ventilation. It was also stated that prisoners were only allowed to exercise for one hour for two weeks, the water is muddy and radios were collected. 
 
'10 PRISONERS LOST THEIR LIVES'
 
In the application, it was stated that prisoners were forced to undergo mouth searches and many prisoners did not go to the hospital because of this, and it was pointed out that 60-year-old Celal Cengiz, who was at risk of a heart attack, was taken to the hospital in handcuffs and was handcuffed to a stretcher in the hospital. The application pointed to Karakuzu's posts and pointed out that at least 10 judicial prisoners have ended their lives in the last two years due to violations.
 
TENS OF VIOLATIONS
 
In the application, prisoner Mesut Ayşin stated that prisoners are subjected to racist expressions, there is a water shortage, the food is not hygienic, meat meals were served only one day a month, his request for diet food due to diabetes was not accepted, he was ill-treated by doctors in the hospital, and he was kept in solitary confinement even though he was not a convict, prisoners stated that the lights were turned on by the guards at night, that there were no workshops, that no air could enter their rooms due to the wire fences, that there was no hot water, that prisoners who could not buy ready-made water because they had no money had to drink the dirty water flowing from the taps and that they often got sick. 
  
TOLD OF TORTURE BY GUARDS
 
The application also included the testimonies of prisoner İsmail Tüzün. It was stated that on August 26, Tüzün was forced out of his room by the guards and taken to another room. “Tüzün stated that two robocops entered him by both arms and bent him by the neck and another guard kicked him from behind, that he was thrown into an empty room in the corridor where prisoners from different crimes were staying, that he had to go to the ventilation alone in his new place, that his belongings were collected by the guards, prisoner Mansur Zan's arm was broken, letters inside the prison were confiscated on the grounds that they provided intra-organizational communication, there was a danger of death, sometimes they came to search 2 days a week and distributed his belongings, he was subjected to psychological and physical torture, the water was muddy, dishes, tea, etc. Everything was made with ready-made water.”
 
PRISONER KILIÇ'S CLOTHES ARE NOT GIVEN TO HIM 
 
The report also included violations of the rights of Yusuf Kılıç, who is kept in solitary confinement in the same prison, although he was not convicted of aggravated life imprisonment.  It is stated that Kılıç has concerns about his life due to the violations. In the application, it was stated that the clothes and belongings sent to Kılıç by his family were not given to him for 2 months.
 
COMMISSION CALLED TO DUTY
 
In the application, it was pointed out that the violations in question should be examined on the spot and the violations should be put an end to, and the commission was requested to visit the prisons.
