MÊRDÎN - The prosecutor's office announced its final opinion before the final hearing of the case against those who marched for Pakistan Demir, who was murdered by her husband in Kerboran, and demanded punishment for the family members and women.

In Kerboran (Dargeçit) district of Mêrdîn (Mardin), a woman named Pakistan Demir Öner was murdered on September 16, 2022 by Mehmet Emin Öner, to whom she was married and who had repeatedly issued a restraining order against her.

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed against the march organized by her family and women's organizations for Pakistan Demir Öner on September 19, 2022 will be held tomorrow. A total of 12 people, 10 of them women, including Pakistan Demir's mother Naime Demir, her siblings Berivan Demir, Şafia Demir, Mehmet Selim Demir and DBP Women's Assembly Spokesperson Berivan Bahçeci, are on trial. Before the final hearing of the case to be held at Dargeçit Criminal Court of First Instance, the prosecution announced its final opinion.

In the final opinion submitted to the trial on the allegation of “organizing and leading unlawful meetings and demonstrations and participating in their movements”, the prosecutor's office stated: “(...) despite repeated warnings and preventions to the group, the individuals marched towards the law enforcement officers and forced the police barricades in order to continue the march”.

The prosecutor's office stated that the group continued to march despite being reminded of the Mardin Governorate's decision on “banning of meetings and demonstrations” and demanded 11 people to be sentenced to jail penalties ranging from 1 year and 6 months to 3 years. The prosecutor also asked for the separation of the case of a woman who has a warrant for her arrest.
