NEWS CENTRE - The Supreme Court rejected the appeal for Kurdish political prisoner Pakshan Azizi, who was sentenced to death in Iran.
The Supreme Court rejected the appeal for Kurdish journalist and activist Pakshan Azizi, who was sentenced to death in Iran. Pakshan Azizi's lawyer Amir Raisian shared on the X virtual media platform that the appeal was rejected.
Amir Raisian stated that their application for a retrial, which was filed on 25 January 2025, was rejected and the decision was notified on 5 February. Amir Raisian stated that they will submit a retrial request to the Court of Cassation and demand the application of Article 477 to prevent the execution of the verdict.
STATEMENT BY IHRNGO
Iran Human Rights (IHRNGO) also made a statement on Pakshan Azizi. In the statement stating that Pakshan Azizi faces the risk of execution, IHRNGO Director, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam said: “The rejection of Pakhshan Azizi’s appeal indicates that the Islamic Republic sees no way forward other than execution and further repression. The threat of Pakhshan’s execution is serious, and we can only prevent it by raising the political cost through public protests and international pressure.”
