AMED - DBP Women's Assembly will start 3-month-long activities in the provinces, districts and neighbourhoods where it is organised in May.

Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Women's Assembly announced the final declaration of the meeting held in Amed on 12 April. In the declaration, it was noted that in-depth discussions were held on the status and functioning of the assembly, academy, education studies and the line of action.

Final declaration reads: "The call of Mr Öcalan, who carries the hope of peace and freedom to women, peoples, youth and labourers who are wanted to be condemned to a future in the shadow of war policies, has offered us all the possibilities of a future in which we can be the subjects. In this conjuncture where democracy, equality and freedom in the Middle East, Turkey and the world is a fundamental and common need, the attitude and approach of women is an important determinant. The women's struggle for freedom, which is the owner of a historical resistance against male domination and all kinds of power that sanctify the nation state, is the most powerful guide in the creation of both peace and a democratic society. All the moral and political values that society has been deprived of can only be regained through the organised struggle of women. Again, through women's struggle for freedom and equal participation in all processes, moral and political society can be re-realised.

CO-CHAIR SYSTEM

The main goal of our struggle is the realisation of the democratic, ecological, women's liberationist paradigm in all areas of society and life with the philosophy of 'Jin, jiyan, azadî (Woman, life, freedom)'. In this political atmosphere, where democratic politics retains its importance and is the power of solution, it is also an important stage of the democratic society that Mr Öcalan expresses in his call. Democratic politics, which confirms women's connection with freedom and is secured by the co-chair system, is the most important means of defending and building the call for peace and democratic society. The co-chair system is not only a part of the struggle for democratic society, but also one of its founding pillars in the march of the reality of women, where slavery was created, towards the reality of freedom and its own identity. The link between equal representation and popular democracy finds a concrete counterpart in this model.

The paradigm of democratic society is a model of social life based on the self-organisation and direct participation of peoples, an alternative to the centralist nation-state model. This paradigm is proposed as a democratic model for the Kurdish people and all oppressed peoples of the Middle East. The equal representation of different identities, beliefs and women is seen as the fundamental basis of democratic politics; it also reveals the consciousness of the society for self-government in the face of the state. The co-chair system developed in this context and the democratic politics developed accordingly is a practical reflection of the idea of democratic society.

THE PROCESS OF BUILDING A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY

Women's participation in politics, economy and social life with their own will is the core of democratic society and the preliminary step to a democratic nation and a democratic future. On this basis, our main duty and responsibility as women will be to embrace and make visible the process of building a democratic society. The socialisation of the call will also mean the realisation of the call and the construction of a democratic society. Our Women's Assembly, with the philosophy of 'Jin, jiyan, azadî', which deals with the values and the accumulation of struggle created by women from communal society to the present day, has revealed the necessity to concentrate more on organising and training activities with the awareness that women are the leading force in the construction of democratic society.

As a result:

* Establishing women's commissions in all provinces where we are organised and strengthening them where there are commissions.

* To implement the women's party school in two provinces where we are organised.

* To organise workshops and meetings where we will discuss the Ideology of Women's Liberation with the slogan 'To Democratic Society with Free Women'.

* It has been decided to carry out a widespread work in the provinces, districts and neighbourhoods where we are organised, starting in May and continuing for a period of 3 months."
