NEWS CENTER – Despite the ceasefire declared by the PKK following the call of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, Turkey has carried out 23 thousand attacks on the Federated Kurdistan Region so far.

After 43 months of isolation imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, he first met with his nephew and Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party MP Ömer Öcalan on 23 October 2024.

In the meeting Abdullah Öcalan said, “Isolation continues. If conditions are right, I have the theoretical and practical power to move this process from the ground of conflict and violence to the legal and political ground.” Then he held 3 meetings with the İmralı Delegation formed by the DEM Party.

After 27 February meeting, the delegation shared “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” of Abdullah Öcalan with the public. Responding to this call, the PKK Executive Committee announced in a statement that as of 1 March “None of our forces will take armed action unless attacked. Beyond this, only the practical leadership of Leader Apo can make matters such as laying down arms practical”.

Despite the PKK's declaration of a ceasefire, Turkey's attacks against the Federated Kurdistan region continued.

According to the data we obtained from the news published in Fırat News Agency (ANF), in the statement made by the The Press Center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) it was stated in March, Turkey attacked the Federated Kurdistan region 11 times with chemical weapons, 9 times with banned weapons and 9 times with drones loaded with explosives against our war tunnels in the Medya Defence Areas. At the same time, the resistance areas were bombed 169 times by warplanes, 98 times by attack helicopters and 11 thousand 289 times by heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers.
