NEWS CENTER - The coalition led by Maduro won the election in Venezuela, where the turnout remained at 42 per cent.
In the parliamentary and local elections held yesterday in Venezuela, the ruling coalition led by President Nicolas Maduro, the Great Patriotic Pole (Gran Polo Patriótico-GPP), came out on top.
According to the preliminary results announced by the Venezuelan National Assembly, the electoral council (CNE), the GPP won 82.68 per cent of the votes, securing a majority in the National Assembly and winning governorships in 23 of 24 states. Making a statement in the capital Caracas, CNE President Elvis Amoroso announced that 4 million 553 thousand 484 of the total 5 million 507 thousand 324 votes cast went to the ruling bloc.
The voter turnout rate was 42.6 per cent. The main opposition bloc Democratic Alliance received 6.25 per cent of the votes, while Alianza UNTC received 5.18 per cent and Alianza Fuerza Vecinal received 2.57 per cent.
