Initiative of Free Journalists (ÖGİ) published the September report of violations of rights of September. ÖGİ stating that routine reporting procedure is considered to be a crime, reminded that the journalists who reported the centennial tree that cut down in Rize and the man who committed suicide for not being able to buy his son a pair of trousers were accused of the alleged "crime" of reporting the incidents. According to the report, the two reporters taken under custody and stood trial and then released with a sentence of judicial control decision.

 

FREE JOURNALİSM WILL BE BESIEGED

 

According to the ÖGİ report, opponent and alternative media will be taken under control even in the internet. From now on establishing a radio station or publishing a newspaper online will require a licence. The programs who violate RTUK (Radio and Television Supreme Council) rules will go ff the air, even get shut down and a criminal action will begin against them. Thus, the leash on journalism will be shortened by the state. Free journalism will be besieged even further and it will be illegalized.

According to the September report of ÖGİ, 173 journalists are in prison, 4 taken under custody, 110 stood trial, 4 got a fine of 27 thousand Liras, 53 relieved of duty of resigned and only 11 were released.

The report demanded the detainee journalists to be released and condemned the violations of rights.
