İSTANBUL- Prof. Dr. Yaman Akdeniz drawing attention to the increase of the charge "defamation of the president", said: " The system is based on punishing and silencing. Merest critisim ends up in criminal procedure."

 

Investigations was launched about 68 thousand 827 citizens between 2014-2017 due to the due to the article 299 of the Turkish Penal Code lesigtating 'defamation of the president'. While 12 thousand 839 of them evolved into law suits. Prof. Dr. Yaman Akdeniz who spoke to the reporters of Cumhuriyet Newspaper, said: "The system is based on punishing and silencing. Merest critisim ends up in criminal procedure."
