VAN- Journalist Ziya Ataman who is on hunger strike for 34 days in Van High Security Closed Prison drew attention to the fact that silence towards the ongoing hunger strikes is unaccaptable.

 

Ziya Ataman, a reporter of Dicle News Agency (DİHA) which was shut down with a law decree joined the hunger strike action on March 1. Ataman made a call for ending the silence regarding the hunger strikes to prevent more deaths.

 

The letter Journalist Ataman who is incarcerated since April 1, 2016 is as follows: "The biggest wound is not the one caused by a gun. The biggest wound is caused by the silence of people while people are wasting away for the sake of a legitimate demand.

 

The demand to remove the isolation is a fair demand looking at the last 3-4 years that people's right to life is being constantly ignored. The reason for thousands of people laying their bodies to hunger is the isolation imposed on that one soul. We have shown our moral stance in order to show that we do not accept that this demand and human right are met with silence in the domestic and foreign public opinion .

 

It is obvious that hunger strikes will end with this demand met, as soon as possible without more serious outcomes. I hope that this demand will be met if people just listen before the anticipated devastations occurr. "
