MERSİN- Prison Monitoring Commission Spokesperson Attorney İbrahim Binici who stated that deaths are a matter of time regarding the ongoing hunger strike actions, said in order to avoid the deaths, both the government and the main opposition needs to pay attention to the demands of the hunger strikers and determine  road map that includes Öcalan in the law on execution of sentences.

The hunger strike Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair and People's Democratic Party (HDP) Hakkari Deputy Leyla Güven initiated demanding the isolation in İmralı to be terminated, have reached day 160. All political prisoners from all prisons joined the hunger strike on March 1.

Tarsus Campus Prison is one of those prisons.Aside from the sick prisoners, 133 prisoners are on hunger strike in T1, T2, T3 and Women's Closed Prison.

The health conditions of the hunger strikers are being monitored daily by Humans' Rights Association (İHD) Mersin Branch Prison Monitoring Commission which consists of lawyers. Commission spokesperson Attorney İbrahim Bilici, evaluated the point hunger strikers came in the hunger strikes for Mezopotamya Agency (MA).

'THE HARM WE ARE DOING TO OURSELVES WILL BE GOOD FOR THE HUMANITY'

Binici who stated that the demand of the prisoners are completely legal and legitimate, said they observed that the hunger strikers have a strong will about their hunger strike. Binici said: "The will of the hunger strikers are very strong. They identified themselves with the hunger strike resistance in 1980 and they say 'The harm we are doing to ourselves will be good for humanity.' They also say; 'We can sacrifice ourself as long as the solution process begins and the deaths stop.'

DEATHS ARE A MATTER OF TIME!

Attorney Binici who stated that the silence of the government and the main opposition is upsetting, warned that deaths are a matter of time in the stage the hunger strike action came. Binici said: "The hunger strikers are past 90 days now in Tarsus Prison. We observed that they are all detoriorating. The weight loss of the prisoners is around 11-20 kilos. Some are doing so bad that we could not see them because they could not make it to the visitation room. The ones joined the hunger strike on January 5 is worse. Even the fluid intake is a problem for them, they drink water with the help of their friends. SOme can not swallow, therefore can not consume the vitamins. Especially Suat Okur and Zinnet Sağlam... We can face heart attacks, even deaths in the upcoming days."
