Thousands of political prisoners are on hunger strike demanding the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan to be removed. The prisoners who started the hunger strike in groups after DTK Co-chair and HDP Deputy Leyla Güven, started a collective action on March 1.

 

One of these prisoners is Yusuf Selçuk (28). Selçuk is on hunger strike for 51 days since Ordu Type E Prison. Selçuk was accused of 'Helping the organization and providing staff for it' and was sentenced to 9 years in prison. Selçuk have been imprisoned for 4 years.

 

 

Father Ali Selçuk who stated that his son and the other prisoners are right in their demand, said: "If there was no isolation, our children would not start this hunger strike. The isolation on the Kurdish people will not be over until the isolation on our leader is terminated. 

 

 

Father Selçuk who stated that his son was exiled to Ordu Prison 3 years ago, said: "We can't visit him regularly because it is too far away. We can only visit him once in 6 months. We have to hire a vehicle to do so. We drive for 24 hours to see our son. And we can only see him for half an hour."
