Two children of Sarıkaya family is in prison and one is exiled. Zerdeşt Sarıkaya who is sentenced to life in prison is on hunger strike for 53 days in Patnos Type L closed Prison. Sarıkaya who is a sick prisoner, has been incarcerated for 24 years now.

 

 

Father Şakir Sarıkaya who spoke to his son on the phone last week, stated that the vitamins which are vital for a hunger striker is not being given, and that the ward they are staying always smells of sewage. Father Sarıkaya also stated that his son is deteroirating and coughing blood.

 

 

Father Şakir Sarıkaya who stated that both his sons are in prison and one is exiled, said he lost his wife 4 months ago, that they ket the body in the morgue for 3 days but none of his sons were able to attend the funeral. Sarıkaya stated that his son spoke to his mother on the phone on December 29, 2018 and told her that he will join the hunger strike action and that his mother congratuled him then she died 4 days later. Sarıkaya said no matter how hard they tried, they could not get permission for their son to attend the funeral.

 

 

Sarıkaya who stated that young people are dying in prisons on a daily basis, said: "Isolation is a crime against humanity. Those who are not a partner in this crime are resisting now. Funerals are coming out of the prisons every day. Who want their child to die? We want the isolation and the hunger strikes to be over."
