İSTANBUL - The reasoned decision regarding the case of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi Newspaper which was closed down after a trustee was appointed was announced. The decision stated that freedoms are not unlimited and that the press freedom can be limited for national security.
The reasoned decision for Özgürlükçü Demokrasi which was expropriated and the staff was sentenced to a total of 14 years and 4 months was announced. The reason decision given by İstanbul 23rd High Criminal Court based their decision on the articles written on Efrin Operation while assessing the news paper as a threat to national security.
The reason decision states: "Although freedom of the press and freedom of expression are taken under legal and constitutional protection, these freedoms are not unlimited. It is inevitable to limit certain freedoms in order to ensure the existence and continuity of the state and society. It is a fact that in no society can there be such a thing as unlimited freedom, that unlimited freedom will lead to anarchy and ultimately destroy freedoms. For this reason, it is aimed to limit freedom in case of conflict with values ??such as peace of society, public order and national security. The restriction of press freedom for national security falls within the category of protection of the state and society."
