The passport of Yeni Yaşam (New Life) Newspaper Reader Representative Hüseyin Aykol, who went to Istanbul Airport to go to Brussels, the capital of Belgium, was confiscated. During the passport control, the police stated that on 3 October 2019, the Population Directorate decided to confiscate his passport. Aykol whom we reached via telephone, said he did not know on what grounds his passport was confiscated and that he will object to relevant institutions when he arrives back in Ankara.

 

Aykol who was held in prison for 107 days for the case of closed Özgür Gündem Newspaper, was released on October 25, 2019. Aykol who has a 3 years 9 months prison sentence pending at the Supreme Court, has a total of 63 law suits filed against him due to his journalistic practices. Some of those law suits are pending at the Supreme Court while some of them are in the Court of Appeals.
