ANKARA - HDP Group Deputy Chairperson Saruhan Oluç said 'According to this government, journalism is a crime now' regarding the detentions and arrests of journalists. Oluç also reacted to the attack against the feminist night march.
People's Democratic Party (HDP) Group Deputy Chairperson Saruhan Oluç held a press conference at the parliament.
Oluç starting his words with the pressure on journalists, stated that 6 journalists were arrested in a week and dozens were taken into custody. Oluç said: "Journalism is a crime according to this government. Reporting is a crime. The freedom of expression is in danger with the attitude of the government against journalists. . There is no freedom of the press. Freedom of the press is making news that disturbs the power. Why are you bothered by journalists making news at the border? If you think you are very politically and morally right in your policy towards asylum seekers, then why do you feel uncomfortable with journalist reporting about the asylum seekers? Why arrest journalists reporting from border, and prevent them?
Oluç pointing out to the arrest of Yeni Yaşam Newspaper's Executive Editor Ferhat Çelik and Editor in Chief Aydın Keser and Yeniçağ Newspaper writer Murat Ağırel, said: "They detained the journalists then they brought them to court and the court released them. Then the prosecutor objected to the release decision and raided their houses and another court decided their arrests. One court releases the journalists and another one arrests them. We should remind the President of the Supreme Court once again that the society won't trust the judiciary in a country where the judiciary is not independent and impartial.
