İSTANBUL - Sharing the information that their band member İbrahim Gökçek, who is on a death fast for 304 days is detoriorating day by day, Grup Yorum member Seher Adıgüzel said Gökçek is resisting to stay alive.

 

Grup Yorum members Helin Bölek and İbrahim Gökçek started hunger striking in the prison demanding the removal of bans on their concerts, removal of their members from the red bulletin wanted list and stopping the raids on İdil Culture Center, then they turned the hunger strike into a death fast. Helin Bölek lost her life on her 288th day. İbrahim Gökçek who has been on death fast for 304 days, continues his action.

 

Seher Adıgüzel, a member of the group, stated that the health condition of their friend İbrahim Gökçek is getting worse day by day.

 

THEY CHOSE TO KILL THEM

 

Stating that their legitimate demands are still not met, Adıgüzel said that Helin Bölek lost her life for these demands and İbrahim Gökçek is very angry about it. Adıgüzel, emphasizing that their demands are easy to meet, said: "But the AKP and the Ministry of Interior chose to kill them.  Ibrahim brother was upset that he lost his friend who resisted in his next room. Helin's death has exhausted him."

 

Adıgüzel reminding that Gökçek said: "“I was not given the right to life. After that point, I had to defend our right. I started a death fast as it is the highest form of anger", said: "Ibrahim wants to live. He is resisting to stay alive.  Concert bans imposed on a music group today will eventually turn into violating their right to life. İbrahim says he will resist until the end and he will continue to produce to his last breath. There is no change in his demands." 

 

Adıgüzel underlined that everyone should take responsibility to help İbrahim stay alive and pressure the Ministry of Interior, and said that Gökçek is making the same call as well. Adıgüzel also responded to AKP Group Vice President Özlem Zengin who said 'Those concerts are propagandizing terror, you don't see that'.

 

Adıgüzel stating that this discourse indicates that the government is stuck, said: "Actually, the government who does not want Grup Yorum to be on the agenda, brings Grup Yorum to agenda by banning their concerts and disregarding their right to life. Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu called us 'cannibals'. He is the cannibal. They are the ones who tried to abduct Helin's dead body. They tried to prevent us from burying Helin with a religious ceremony. They made us wash our friend in a car with cold water!"

 

Stating that the government did not allow to fulfill Helin's last will, said: "Helin wanted us to form a circle and dance the halay in case of her martyrdom. They did not allow us. We could not fulfill her last will."
