13 bar associations said that the regulation in the Law of Execution goes against the principle of equality of the Constitution, and asked the Constitutional Court to cancel it.

 

Adıyaman, Ağrı, Batman, Bingöl, Dersim, Diyarbakır, Hakkari, Mardin, Mus, Siirt, Sirnak, Urfa and Van Bar Associations signed a statement in which they say that "the recently approved Law of Execution was approved despite the objections. Although no public announcement has been made yet, approximately a third of the prisonersare expected to be released as a result of this legal regulation."

 

The statement recalled that among those who won't benefit from the Law of Execution are political prisoners as well as prisoners of conscience and journalists. 

 

The 13 bars underlined: "The law enacted as part of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic actually reiterates the known discriminatory and non-egalitarian approach. It is the basic principle and obligation of the state of law to protect the rights and law of minorities as much as of the majority."

 

The statement recalled that this law actually contraddicts the very principle of equality contained in the Constitution and therefore asked the Constitutional Court to cancel it.
