NEWS CENTER - 10 specialised sergeants who participated in Turkey's attacks on the Federated Kurdistan Region resigned due to psychological problems they experienced.
The attacks launched by Turkey on the Federated Kurdistan Region on April 17 in cooperation with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) continue with intense clashes. The clashes started to have a negative effect on the psychology of the soldiers. It was stated that despite the air and ground attacks by Turkey, the increasing losses caused controversy and demoralisation among the soldiers.
FAILURE CAUSED TRAUMA
According to the information obtained, while the soldiers had difficulties due to violent clashes and difficult and unfamiliar territory, some soldiers were traumatized. It was stated that the discussions between the specialised sergeants over the loss of soldiers in the attacks grew and they did not want to go back to the region. It has been claimed that at least 10 sergeants who participated in the attacks so far have resigned.
UNKNOWN TERRITORY
A sergeant who resigned said that the conditions in the region were worse and more difficult than they were told, and that they realised this the minute they arrived at the region. Stating that he had decided to become a sergeant with both economic and nationalistic feelings before joining the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF), the sergeant said that when he lost his job, he decided to become a sergeant upon the suggestion of his friends. Noting that he convinced himself with nationalist feelings, the sergeant said that later he stayed for money and that they looked death in the eyes when they went there.
Stating that they were deployed to a territory they were not familiar with along the border line, the sergeant said that many soldiers lost their lives in the clashes. The specialised sergeant said that 10 soldiers participated in the attacks launched last year, but 2 soldiers were able to return, and that he started to have psychologic issues and therefore resigned.
