DİYARBAKIR - 16 journalists arrested in Diyarbakır on June 16 are not allowed to buy refrigerators, televisions and books.
16 journalists, who were arrested on charges of "membership in a terrorist organisation" after being detained in an operation carried out on June 8 in Diyarbakır, are exposed to violations of rights in the prison they are held in. During the meeting with the family of journalist Ömer Çelik, who is being held in Diyarbakır High Security Closed Prison No. 2, Çelik told his family about the violations of their rights.
Çelik stated that although they have been in prison for 2 months, the books they were sent were not given to them. Çelik stated that they were not allowed to buy a refrigerator and a television in Diyarbakır, where the temperature is 42 degrees.
Çelik stated that the prison administration said that the books could only be given to them in the first week of September and the prison administration did not give them a reason why they were not allowed to buy a refrigerator and television.
The attorneys of the journalists stated that they will apply to the prison administration regarding the issue.
