NEWS CENTER- Journalist Remziye Temel, who was arredted in Diyarbakır, wrote about experiences of the Peace Mother Şefika Kandar who is held with her in the same ward in prison.

 

Journalist Remziye Temel, who was detained during the operation in Diyarbakır and was arrested with 15 of her colleaques, wrote a letter to Bianet. Remziye Temel wrote about the story of the Peace Mother Şefika Kandar(63) who are held with her in the same ward in prison.

 

In the Temel letter: "I wanted to write the short and diffucult 6-year story of a mother in Diyarbakır Closed Women's Prison. The name of the mother is Şefika Kandar(63) who has three children. Şefika doesn't know how to read or write.

 

ŞEFİKA WAS DETAINED FOR 22 DAYS

 

The morher Şefika explains: "I was detained at my house in Urfa in 2016. I didn't know the reason for detention. I was detained for days. After 22 days, I was brought to court and arrested for 'being a member of an terrorist organisation' and sent to Urfa Hilvan Type T Prison. Prison is diffucult for a morher and older people like me. I was in prison for a year. After one year, I was released on conditions of trial without arrest. I was out for four years. In the  second court, I got a sentence of 7 years and 6 months. My sentence was immediately upheld. I decided to go abroad due to my age."

 

ŞEFIKA WAS CAUGHT AT THE BORDER AND TURNED OVER

 

Şefika continued: "My son and I were caught when I tried to cross the Greek border in June 2021. We was detained with inhumane treatment. We were striped search. It is realy hard for me as a mother to strip in front of my son. My son and I was sent to Turkey. I was held for 44 days in Edirne Prison and I was in FETÖ ward for 44 days. I was transfered to Gebze Type M Prison and I was held in cell for 22 days. Because of the condition of prison, I was depressed and I still use the medicine for that. My only crime is to be a 'Mother of Peace' and want peace. Thousands of people, like me, are imprisoned in unjust and unlawful ways. I am held for two years and a month and I have three more years left."

 

Temel said: "Şefika mother is the someone I get strength from. Şefika Mother is like out mother and she takes care of us. Şefika mother is so very stong and challenging. Şefika mother got through diffucult days but she lost nothing of her smiling face because she is a Mother of Peace and she said that she will always defend peace until the end of her days."
