DİYARBAKIR - Being held in Diyarbakır High Prison No. 2, Journalist Zeynel Abidin Bulut said that they were billed for electricity costs and they were threatened with deduction from the account if they did not pay.

 

12 of the 16 journalists arrested in Diyarbakır on June 16 were transferred to Diyarbakır 1 and 2 High Security Prisons on June 6. Zeynel Abidin Bulut, one of the imprisoned journalists, conveyed the practices they got through in Diyarbakir No. 2 High Security Prison, in a letter he sent.

 

THEY IMPLEMENT THE HOSTILITY LAW IN PRISONS

 

Stating that the Ministry of Justice has put into effect the violations of rights and unlawful practices, Bulut said: “Thousands of prisoners are punished by the courts affiliated to the Ministry of Justice, thrown into dungeons and faced with hostile law practices. The same policies are applied in all prisons."

 

ELECTRICITY BILL IS PAID TO PRISONERS

 

Reminding that they were transferred from Diyarbakır Type D Closed Prison to Diyarbakır No. 2 High Security Prison on July 6 after their arrest, Bulut explained the practices in the prison as follows: "The guard said that there had been objections before, but nothing had changed, and showed us the letter from the Ministry of Justice. In the response of the Ministry to the objection, it is stated that 'Heating and lighting expenses belong to the institution, other than that, private uses belong to the prisoners". Once again we told the guard that we would not pay the bill. The guard said that if the payment is not made, our accounts will be deducted.”
