NEWS CENTER - PUK Group Chairperson Herem Kemal Axa stated that the constitution cannot be violated just because a party wants it, and said that the PUK's stance on the dissolution of parliament and early elections is the same as the Coordination Framework.
Although 10 months have passed since the Iraqi early elections, neither the president could be elected nor the government could be formed. The parties cannot agree on anything. Sadr supporters have been holding demonstrations in the green zone in Baghdad for about two weeks, demanding early elections.
Iraqi Parliament PUK Group Chairperson Herem Kemal Axa announced his party's stance on the election. Speaking to Voice of America, Herem Kemal Axa said: “The PUK's stance on the dissolution of parliament and early elections is the same as the Coordination Framework. If the Sadr Movement wants to dissolve the parliament and hold early elections, there are legal mechanisms for this. The constitution and laws cannot be violated just because a political party wants it."
Stating that due to the demonstrations of Sadr supporters, there is no suitable place for a parliamentary meeting, but the Kurdistan Region may be suitable for the parliamentary meeting, Axa said: "There are mechanisms such as laws and budgets for early elections. This requires an elected and reliable government. The current Iraqi government is an interim government and does not meet these criteria."
