URFA - Journalists following the Şenyaşar family, who continued the sit-in at the entrance of the Urfa Courthouse, were blockaded by the police and threatened. Upon the condemnation of the family, the police had to withdraw.

 

The Justice Watch carried out by the Şenyaşar family has reached day 539. The sit-in was launched on  March 9, 2021 by Emine Şenyaşar, who lost her husband and two sons as a result of the attack carried out by AKP MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız's bodyguards and relatives in the Suruç province of Urfa, on June 14, 2018. In the morning hours, mother and son came to Urfa Courthouse from their house in Suruç district.

 

The mother and her son started the sit-in in the shaded area at the entrance of the courthouse. The "Governor's decision" prevented the family from staging the sit-in at the entrance of the courthouse, but the decision was taken back with the family's determined stance. Journalists who wanted to follow the sit-in of the family wanted to be blocked. The police, who claimed that demonstrations are prohibited at the entrance of the building, cited the decision of the Governor's Office to ban demonstration in front of public buildings. Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reporter and Yeni Yaşam Newspaper reporters, who recorded the sit-inl of the mother and son despite the ban, were taken to the General Information Scan (GBT). The police threatened the journalists with "legal action".

 

POLICES STEPPED BACK

 

Meanwhile, many riot police were brought in front of the courthouse and the family was besieged. The family, who continued the sit-in under the blockade, condemned the police. Şenyaşar said: "You should have taken these precautions when my family was murdered. 3 people from my family were killed in the hospital. Hospital footage was stolen."

 

Upon the condemnation of the family, the police ended the blockade.
