DİYARBAKIR - Seriously ill prisoner Mehmet Emin Özkan, who has been under treatment in the intensive care unit for 4 days in the hospital where he was taken after took a turn for the worse, was taken out of the hospital and taken back to the prison with his hands in handcuffs in a wheelchair.

 

Mehmet Emin Özkan (83) who is on the list of seriously ill detainees who need to be released from prisons urgently, was taken to Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital on September 2 after taking a turn for the worse in Diyarbakır Type D Prison. Özkan, who was taken to the intensive care unit for 3 days in the hospital and whose heart rhythm dropped to 40, was taken to a normal hospital room. Özkan, who was released from the hospital today, was taken back to prison in handcuffs in a wheelchair.

 

HE WAS TAKEN BACK TO PRISON IN HANDCUFFS

 

Speaking to the Mesopotamia Agency (MA), Özkan's daughter Selma Özkan stated that she saw her father from afar when they were taking him out of the hospital, and that they were prevented from approaching her father. Özkan said, “They surrounded him as if he was going to escape. 5 or 6 people had taken precautions in advance so that we wouldn't go to him. He was in a wheelchair and he was handcuffed. He was like a robot. He was unresponsive. He wasn't looking anywhere. They took him to the prison bus instead of taking him back to the prison with an ambulance. They took him back to the prison today but they will take him back to the hospital tomorrow or even maybe tonight. He is in a very poor condition. They handcuffed him like that. The doctor said that he needed a pacemaker, but they didn't allow it. They want him dead. They want us to take his body out of that prison. That is what they want."

 

'THEY TOOK HIM TO HIS DEATH, THEY WILL BE HIS KILLER'

 

Özkan continued, "They are taking him to his death. This is torture. They will be his killer. We don't accept this. We don't want him to die there alone with them. He is 83 years old and they are torturing him. We want him to be released. We want to be with him."
