NEWS CENTER - KNK Co-Chair Ahmet Karamus pointed out that the KDP's stance harmed Kurdish gains and said, "The KDP is acting with the discourse and the strategy of the enemy. A party that says 'I am a Kurdistan party' should not make such statements."
Turkey's attacks on Zap, Avaşîn and Metina areas in the Federated Kurdistan Region in partnership with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) have been continuing since April 17. Special forces affiliated with the KDP lead soldiers and guards in the region where the clashes are taking place. It also becomes a partner in the said attacks. On September 6, a group of HPG near the Xelifan town of Hewler was targeted by a drone. 3 HPG members lost their lives and 2 HPG members who were injured were detained by KDP forces. Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) Co-Chair Ahmet Karamus evaluated the Turkey-KDP partnership and the latest attacks.
THE GAINS OF KURDS ARE BEING TARGETED
Saying that the attack in Xelîfan could seriously damage Kurdish gains, Karamus noted that different tricks were used to divide Kurds. Pointing out that Turkey aims at a civil war between Kurds, Karamus said, "They have always tried to start a civil war among Kurds to weaken the Kurds. This is not the first time we are experiencing this. These kind of attacks can cause extreme tension which will lead to great conflicts. Our call is that the Kurdish people should take a stand against these provocations. There is an atmosphere of chaos in Iraq right now and Turkey is taking advantage of it to deploy its forces in Iraq and invade its lands."
KDP'S POSITION
Expressing that KDP is driving the region into a deep crisis with its partnership with Turkey, Karamus said: "This is not the first time KDP is acting jointly with Turkey. They ambushed HPG fighters before, a year ago in the same region. We still don't know what happened to these people. However the information we recieve from the locals, indicate that KDP is working with Turkey frequently. We have repeatedly underlined that we do not approve KDP's cooperation with Turkey. They started a war to destroy the status of the Kurdish people. KDP officials reiterate Turkey's demand on the region in its statements. They say that they do not have any issues with the Kurdish people, but they do have an issue with the PKK. This is not a position we can accept."
'KDP SPEAKS WITH THE DISCOURSE OF THE ENEMY'
Stating that the cooperation of Turkey and KDP is getting more close recently, Karamus said: "This position of a Kurdistan party claiming that they are protecting the benefits of Kurdistan saddens us. KDP speaks with the discourse of the enemy and using its strategies. The KDP's cooperation with Turkey on many issues has gradually expanded. The incident in Xelîfan caused great fear in the people of the region. This attack could lead to the start of a civil war in Kurdistan."
'WE ARE AT THE FINLALE OF THE WAR'
Noting that the efforts against the attacks continue, Karamus said: "The status of the Kurds is acknowladged by enemy states, including Turkey. Turkey itself says that this is a war of survival. Therefore, Turkey takes every opportunity it can and tries to start a conflict among the Kurds. In our meetings with Kurdistani institutions and parties, we see that they have a serious reaction against the KDP-Turkey cooperation.Turkey attacks Kurds whenever there is a demand for freedom and everyone is aware of it. We are in the final of the war. We are in the finale of the war. That's why we say that in order to achieve a successful result, everyone must do their part and prevent this cooperation. As KNK, we are ready to solve internal problems."
