NEWS CENTER - Evaluating the results of the second phase of the Humanitarian and Security Operation launched in the Hol Camp, YPJ Spokesperson Ruksen Mihemed said: "The operation achieved its goal despite Turkey's attacks and we have fulfilled our responsibilities for the security of the camp, the protection of humanity and ISIS terrorism."
The second phase of the Humanitarian and Security Operation led by the Internal Security Forces, with the support of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Women's Defense Units (YPJ) and People's Defense Units (YPG) launched in the Hol Camp on August 25 has ended. It was announced that the operation ended on September 17.
In the statement made by the Northern and Eastern Syria Internal Security Forces General Command, it was stated that the operation ended and 2 Yazidi women were rescued as part of the operation and an investigation was launched against the ISIS women who chained 4 women. On the other hand, it was reported that 226 people, including 36 women, who were involved in killing and threats were arrested, 25 tunnels and ditches were found, and a large number of weapons, torture devices and communication materials were seized. In the statement, it was also noted that during the operation, documents and military materials indicating that Turkey supported ISIS were confiscated and the administrators of El Hisbê, where ISIS women were organised, and the administrators of Eşbel El Xilafe, who abused children under the age of 8 and tried to raise them with the ISIS mentality, were captured.
YPJ Spokesperson Ruksen Mihemed made evaluations to JINNEWS regarding the results of the operation against the Hol Camp.
'WE STARTED THE OPERATION DESPITE THE ATTACKS OF TURKEY'
Drawing attention to the importance of the operation launched against ISIS cells in the Hol Camp, Ruksen said: "The camp is among the largest camps in the world and therefore poses a great danger. More than 60 thousand people live in the camp. People from more than 50 countries live there. Most of them are families of ISIS members. There was a great need for the second phase of such an operation. There were delays in the operation due to Turkey's attacks on the region. We launched such an operation despite Turkey's attacks."
'WE FOUND CONNECTIONS OF ISIS CELLS'
Stating that since the beginning of 2022, more than 44 people have been murdered by ISIS members in the Hol Camp, Ruksen said: “There was torture by ISIS members in the camp. They were trained there. Young children were brought up with the ISIS mentality. They are trying to revive ISIS by organising under the name of 'Eşbel El Xilafet (Generations of the Caliphate)'. The ties between the ISIS members living in the camp and the places under Turkey's control were not severed. We have achieved all the goals we aimed for in the operation. One of our goals was to catch the members of the El-Hisbê organisation, which was formed by ISIS women who were training in the camp. On the other hand, we found connections of ISIS cells. We have successfully uncovered this. The connection between ISIS administrators and ISIS cells in the camps in areas under Turkey's control was revealed. It was revealed in terms of military, education and logistics. We presented this to the public through the press."
'2 ÊZİDI WOMEN WERE RESCUED'
Underlining that they reached many tunnels during the operation started in the camp, Ruksen said: “In these tunnels, children were trained. On the other hand, the people they killed were thrown into these tunnels and tortured. We destroyed these tunnels. Educational materials were confiscated. We uncovered the ISIS tents that they used to search people and try them. The documents and weapons we seized as part of the operation proved Turkey's desire to revive ISIS. It showed that Turkey threatens the security of the region. As YPJ, we achieved great success as a result of the operations. One of our greatest success was to rescue 2 Yazidi women held captive in the camp. These women were subjected to severe torture because they were Kurd and Yazidi. As the YPJ, we promised ourselves that we will save Yazidi women from the hands of ISIS. Our struggle will continue until we liberate all Yazidi women. Revenge will be taken for what was done to the Yazidi people. As part of the operation, 4 women in chains were found in the camp on September 5. The investigation continues into how long these women have been tortured. However, we know this very well; These women were in chains because they did not accept the ISIS mentality. Among those killed in the camp were members of the Internal Security Forces."
'OPERATION ACHIEVED ITS GOAL'
Stating that the leaders of Eşbel El Xilafet and El Hisbê, who carried out ISIS activities in the camp, were captured, Ruksen said: "This was an important success, but the danger in the camp did not disappear with the operation. The reason is that ISIS is always supported. Many countries, which have their own citizens in ISIS, do not take responsibility and put them on trial there. The SDF, YPG, YPJ and the Autonomous Administration had to take that responsibility. We have fulfilled our responsibilities for the security of the camp, the protection of humanity and against ISIS terrorism. However, international states and countries that have citizens in the camp should take their citizens back and prosecute them there. We have fulfilled our responsibilities to a certain extent. We got it under control. We reiterate the need to find a permanent solution to the danger posed by the camp. Turkey is placing ISIS administrators in the regions it controls. Instructions are given by these people in order to cause a crisis in the camp. We have called on countries many times that they should take responsibility. But we will always take responsibility. We have achieved all of our goals in the operation.”
