ANKARA - Politician Hatip Dicle, who met academician Nagihan Akarsel, editor of Jineology magazine, who was murdered in Slemani, in Ulucanlar Prison, said, "She was a strong-willed and competent comrade."
Nagihan Akarsel, a member of the Jineology Research Center and the editor of Jineology magazine, who lost her life as a result of an armed attack in the city of Slemani in the Federated Kurdistan Region on October 4, left a great legacy to the women's struggle with her work. Carrying out the Kurdistan Women's Library project, Akarsel left a mark wherever she worked. Apart from academia, women's studies and journalism, Akarsel also carried out important works in prison. While the slogan "Jin Jiyan Azadi", which is now shouted by women all over the world, was shouted for Akarsel, Kurdish politician Hatip Dicle, who met her in Ulucanlar Prison, told about her to the Mesopotamia Agency (MA).
'A STRONG WILLED AND COMPETENT COMRADE'
Stating that they met with Akarsel for a while in Ulucanlar Prison, which he was sent to after the coup against Kurdish politics in 1994, Dicle said, “They separated the members of the parliament in the prison. Leyla Zana and our wards were side by side. They sometimes put other women with Leyla. Nagihan heval was also among those arrested at that time and was put in that ward. Even though we did not have the chance to communicate with each other much, we were able to find the opportunity to chat and participate in educational activities together from time to time during the day.”
Describing Akarsel, Dicle said, "She was a strong-willed and competent comrade, and the fact that she was targeted with a vile assassination caused great pain and anger." He said that Akarsel's murder was linked to the Turkish state.
'IT IS ORGANIZED BY MIT'
Reminding that 5 assassinations were carried out in Slemani together with Akarsel, Dicle said, “It is organized by myth. The killers are most likely being paid and enslaved by money, and made into hitmen. I curse this mentality." Reminding that unsolved murders were committed in Turkey, especially in the 1990s, Dicle reminded that, as in the past, confessors and village guards are often used in these murders.
Stating that Turkey is disturbed by the PUK, Dicle said that Turkey wants the PUK to act in accordance with its instructions, just like the KDP. Dicle said, “Turkey wants to create a group that cooperates with it and can shoot the guerrilla if necessary. When the PUK did do it, Turkey wanted to suppress it in this way, but the PUK should stand firm on this issue. It should show the attitude of Mam Celal."
