BARTIN - The death toll in the mining disaster in the Amasra district of Bartın reached 40.
In the Amasra district of Bartın, a "gas explosion" occurred in the mine pit of the Turkish Hard Coal Institution Amasra Establishment Directorate. The number of workers who lost their lives increased in the explosion that took place while 110 workers were at work.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Security announced that 4 labor inspectors were assigned to the disaster, while the Bartın Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that an investigation was launched and 3 prosecutors were assigned.
Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu made a statement in the mining area where the explosion took place at 11.40 am. Soylu said: “We would have wished that we could make this statement to you without any loss in front of us. However, in the works carried out since that time, a great mobilization 350 meters underground and a great effort was made on the part of all friends. As of 07.30 in the morning, after the declaration of 26 of our martyrs at night, we reached 14 more martyrs. In other words, we have reached 40 martyrs."
