ANKARA - Hülya Ayık, the mother of journalist Devrim Ayık who is 76 percent disabled and seriously ill, said that her son's health condition is getting worse day by day, but the hospital referral was canceled because he refused the cavity of his mouth to be searched.

According to the report of the Human Rights Association (İHD); There are 1,517 ill prisoners in prisons, 651 of whom are seriously ill. Prisoners who are not released despite their serious illnesses die either in prison or shortly after release.

AYIK IS NOT TREATED

Ayık, who is 76 percent disabled, had 40 and 60 cm pieces of his intestines removed in two previous surgeries. Ayık, who lost his right eye completely due to an accident in 2006, also has 30 degrees of myopia in his left eye. Explaining that Ayık had one of his surgeries before he went to prison and the other while he was in detention, his mother Hülya Ayık said: "The infections and ulcers in the intestines continue to increase day by day, but he is not treated."

USUAL REPORT FROM ATK

Stating that his condition is getting worse day by day during the period he was held in Antalya Prison, Ayık said: "My son's needs were met by his friends, his food was given in bed, and even the counting was done in bed. Despite his serious condition, the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) gave a report 'He can survive on her own', the reason for ATK's report is that my son is a political prisoner. My son also has a visual impairment other than intestinal disease. As he does not accept the cavity of his mouth to be searched and humiliating approaches, so hospital referrals are cancelled.``
