ANKARA - HDP MPs called for "open the gates of Imrali" in the sit-in protest they staged on the second day in front of the Ministry of Justice.

 

The sit-in protest, which the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) started yesterday in front of the Ministry of Justice demanding that PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan meet with a lawyer, continued on its second day. HDP MPs Feleknas Uca, Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Serpil Kemalbay, Dilan Dirayet Taşdemir, Nuran İmir, Abdullah Koç, Şevin Coşkun and Erdal Aydemir came in front of the Ministry of Justice with placards saying "The lawyers should go to İmralı", "The law should be applied in İmralı", "Isolation is a crime against humanity", "End the war and isolation".

 

'STOP COMMITTING CRIME'

 

Emphasizing that Turkey cannot democratize without solving the Kurdish question, Taşdemir said: “The problems of this country cannot be solved without democratizing Turkey. If we are in the swamp of mafia-political relations today, if we cannot account for the money stolen from our pocket today, the very reason is the isolation in Imrali and Kurdish question. They cover up all their unlawfulness with their warmongering about the Kurdish question. We want the isolation on Mr. Öcalan to be lifted as soon as possible and for his family and lawyers to be contacted. We call the Ministry of Justice. Stop committing crimes."

 

'OPEN THE GATES OF IMRALI'

 

Emphasizing that the heavy isolation policies of the government, which is in a race to escalate the war, are dangerous, Kemalbay said: “Opening the gates of Imrali as soon as possible, ensuring that Mr. Abdullah Öcalan meeting with his family, especially his lawyers, is not enough; We think that negotiations and dialogue should be started in order for Turkey to achieve peace and democracy. There are also many seriously ill prisoners in Turkish prisons, and we say that ill prisoners should be freed as soon as possible. We demand freedom for political prisoners. We invite the Ministry of Justice to take charge."
