BATMAN - Stating that the people demanded the freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and that they applied to the Ministry of Justice for a meeting, HDP Diyarbakır MP Remziye Tosun said: "Those who remained silent during the persecution are complicit."
HDP Co-Chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar, Party Spokesperson Ebru Günay and Central Executive Board (MYK) member Ömer Öcalan applied to the Ministry of Justice with a request to hold a meeting in İmralı on October 20. After the application was left unanswered, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Saliha Aydeniz and HDP MPs Nuran İmir, Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Erdal Aydemir made a similar application to the Ministry of Justice on November 30.
After all the applications were left unanswered, yesterday, Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair Berdan Öztürk, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Sezai Temelli, Remziye Tosun, Abdullah Koç, Dilan Dirayet Taşdemir and Şevin Coşkun requested a meeting with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and they applied to the Ministry with a petition. In the petition submitted to the Ministry, there is a request for an open meeting with Abdullah Öcalan. After the Ministry of Justice did not respond positively or negatively to the applications, HDP MPs launched a demonstration in front of the ministry on December 21 demanding that Öcalan not be allowed to meet with his lawyers.
'NO NEWS FOR 21 MONTHS'
Remziye Tosun, who is among the applicants, reminded that Öcalan has not been heard from in any way for 21 months and said: "The state and stage of Öcalan's health is unknown. All areas of life are currently under isolation. The ongoing isolation on Öcalan must end. The isolation in the Middle East and Kurdistan is also related to this. If the gates of Imrali are opened, an honorable peace, an honorable process will begin, and the oppression and tyranny on the peoples will come to an end. Society breathes a sigh of relief. Lawyers and MPs had applied before. We also applied. We have applied to end this isolation and start a process where people can breathe."
'PEOPLE DEMAND THE FREEDOM OF ÖCALAN'
Emphasizing that Öcalan's freedom is the demand of the people, Tosun said: “When we come together with the people, the primary demand of the people is Öcalan's freedom. People find the way to a sigh of relief at the opening of the Imrali gates. In the dialogues they have with us, their demands are in this direction. They demand Öcalan's freedom because they are worried about your health. We have attempted to open the Imrali gates. We started a rotating sit-in in front of the Ministry of Justice. We fight in the streets. We work as TJA. Our applications continue. We will continue our struggle until we hear from Öcalan.”
